‘Remembrance’ is a kinetic sound sculpture that is intended as a meditation on memory and the imperfections of the human process of remembering. A tape head, extracted from a cassette walkman, intermittently comes into contact with strands of cassette tape as two turntables rotate. The tape – cut-up from charity shop cassettes – carries music that was, in the past, experienced lucidly by its previous owners, yet in the present exists only fragmented, imperfect and periodic.
