A sound sculpture that uses VHS tapes as its physical and audio source material. The piece attempts to highlight the way in which increasingly obsolete analogue technology changes the character of the information it contains and our experience of it.
A VHS player plays a 12-minute collage constructed via spliced segments of videotapes, while contact mics and electromagnetic pickup coils amplify the sounds of the device itself. The remaining sections of tape, from which the collage was extracted, surround the playback devices, altering the viewer’s experience of the visual material.
